- Data sheet
Like an egg the other that the same old 902 and the current avant 902i Mordaunt Short – outside is no change visible, with the exception of the sound barely relevant bi-wiring terminals. No error must be that drivers and housing remained largely unchanged,: the old model was already in AUDIO 1/2006 with a pleasant and surprisingly rich rendition. Particularly positive the high quality metal dome was at that time, which although not more bundles with their little sound leadership, but very elegantly avoids edge reflections.
The aluminium front panel not a given in this price class – is only glued in but with the baffle. The bass is also made of light alloy. Its diaphragm is drawn from one piece and anodized, covered with a layer of ceramic. The beading provides hub joyful suspension, the very streamlined reflex tube could use but a few millimeters more diameter. At high levels, compression and flow noises threaten in a such a narrow tube.
And already after a few bars of Beethoven (Symphony No. 9, Barenboim, Warner), the small Mordaunt wowed the AUDIO Editor. You won’t trust just so rich, dynamic Orchestra sound a so small and inexpensive box. Although noticeably restrained in tone, Natalie Merchants about overly slender voice (“10000 maniacs unplugged”, Warner), gave back she could score in top positions compared to the old NuBox 310. Where the Nubert stressed acoustic and condensed high-frequency details, she surprised MS 902i, with pleasant precision and an enormous ESS. “Silky and clear” many high Ender would have probably noted. She performed no miracles in the bass, but was able to convince: dynamic and dry, with Size-related proper depth and dynamics.
