Natural resources and energy
Saint Lucia lacks minerals and other natural
resources of greater economic importance. The country's
main resource is rather the sandy beaches, which form
the basis of the important tourism industry.

The country's energy needs are still largely covered
by imported fossil fuels in the form of oil and oil
products. However, an investment is made on renewable
energy sources, including geothermal heat, solar power
and wind power. Saint Lucia aims to extract 35 percent
of its energy consumption from renewable sources by
2020.
